Sleeping on the floor vs a mattress.

Is there any truth in that sleeping on the floor is good/better for your back than a bed? Have you or do you sleep on the floor what was the reason and did it help you if you had lower back pain?

No, it's bad. The floor doesn't conform to your body - it's the other way around. Your body has to contort and assume all sorts of uncomfortable positions to sleep on the floor.

I think the problem is a lot of beds have a frame and then a flexy area for the matress = sag... a bed with a firm base and a decent quality matress is probably just as good if not better and more comfortable than sleeping on the floor.

I sleep on my front room floor when it's to hot, Works for me but then i can sleep anywhere.

I was getting back pains but it was because my pillows were too big. I use a really thin pillow now. Floor doesn't sound comfy tbh.

I find a bed with a firm base and firm mattress beats sleeping on the floor. Mind you there is nothing like sleeping on a marble floor in a hot climate.

Got real bad lower back pain at the moment in the morning it cripples me for a hour or two and was thinking of kipping on floor tonight. I have an orthopedic mattress which is around 6 years old but has seen a lot of action :D so many its time to change it for new one ( memory foam?)

spiders get you on the floor :p

You mean there's a forcefield around your bed that prevents them from climbing or dropping onto it?

I've slept on a number of floors, usually when staying over at mates houses and it's usually not too bad but I wouldn't recommend it for more than a day or two. You could always try a thin futon if you wanted less in the way of padding than a soft mattress but realistically the best option is almost certainly a good quality firm mattress.

//edit and if you haven't already then go see your doctor and/or a physiotherapist to see if you can't sort the back problems, they're no fun at all.

Personally I find it makes it worse for me so ymmv

I also tend to struggle with lower back pain. Sleeping on a really firm mattress works for me.

I'm another one who seriously loves the floor. Especially if drunk. I've got the hardest matress I could find on my bed at the moment.

Floor=good but spiders on floor=screaming like a 6month old girl.
