SLI - 2 Different Cards

I bought a second 980ti in the MM to go SLI. I swore I wouldn't go back SLI, but with current second hand prices I couldn't resist and am happy to put up with the grief (hopefully not too much of it) while I wait for the next actual high end card to come out.

I'm pairing my Classified up with a card that may not keep up with it's clock speed, a MSI 980TI Armor 2X:

I'm not expecting the MSI clock speeds to keep up as I say, and I'm thinking maybe the cooler will be a bit weak too. I'll be SLI on air and was considering whether I should leave the Classy as it is (1418/stock) and also leave the MSI as it is, which will be lower clock.

Would the imbalance in clock speed make much difference? If the MSI is cooking a wee bit I may even downclock it a little bit.

Anyone any thoughts/experience with a similar set up?

im pretty sure, both cards run at the lowest speed of either card. So mismatching isnt a problem, as long as they are both the same type.

I take it you mean same type as in 980ti?

Would anyone with sli on air be prepared to do a wee benchmark test? Any game at current settings and then with say - 200 on the core? I'd be interested in what the cost was in terms of score and the benefit in terms of heat reduced?

If I recall correctly the boast clocks of my SLI GTX 670's matched. Unfortunately I don't have both cards now to check.

But you be ok with different versions of the same card, my MSI and Gigabyte ran fine together.
