SLI 460 heat

Yeah extra fans blowing directly at the cards will help with cooling, if your max temps are fine now then you may not need any extra cooling.

I ask about extra fans as with the temp's going up so did the noise from the fans. Guess it's looking out how much noise extra fans would produce as well.

I recall someone mentioned his EVGA GTX460 the fan was too loud for him and he returned it under DSR. The extra fans you put in might or might not keep the SLI cards temp low enough to the point of not having te fan speed/noise increase too much. What kind of temp you are getting for your cards by the way? If the temps are low enough, then may be you can use something like MSI Afterburner to set a custom fan profile to adjust the temp vs fan speed.

If I'm not mistaken, for GTX460 SLI, the best cooler and quietness is the MSI Cyclone GTX460. Gigabyte GTX460 cooling and quietness is quite good for single card, but for SLI the temp get quite a bit higher as good as the MSI Cyclone (could be to do with the huge cooler of the top card not getting enough airflow with the bottom card blocking.

I think the gtx460 fan speed is set to a minimum of 40% so you will not be able to lower it below that. I have the same problem with mine and it is incredibly annoying. Tried to use afterburner to lower it with no luck.

I think if it is noisy at just 40% fan speed, then the card really must has crap cooler I think :(

I wouldnt say its 'noisy' but you can definately hear it over all my case fans. Playing games the fan reaches 43% so i really do not see the point in having the minimum set at 40%, this just baffles me!

Do you have external exhaust or normal reference design?..top card always runs hotter..my sli setup is about 5mm away from each other..fans can be noisy on EE model, but tbh im playing games with headset and only notice when i take headphones off..i heard EVGA making new software so you can control the fans...currently you can only set them from 40% to 80% max...75 degrees is not much...can max out at 120 but wouldnt recommend that

ye if you think about it the top cards air intake is right next to bottom card so will draw in warmer air then bottom one...evga have lifetime guarantee anyways..only ever had 1 fail..7950gx2 and was replaced no problems under warranty

this shud make you laugh .. have my pc in my utility room it dries my clothes so fast from heat from pc:P

how about locating an intake fan on the side of your case directly on top of graphics cards i know my old thermaltake case had one there

200mm will be quieter but probably over kill..i have 2 120 intake fans 2x120 fans on cpu cooler ans 1x120mm exhaust and playing crisis and bc2 on max settings gpu got to 81 degrees max with fan at 52 %..unless you live the desert and ambient is 30+ shouldnt overheat unless you overclock them ofc..

If noise and cooling is a major concern..for piece of mind i would use 120 fans as i have no experience with large fans

or just turn volume up when playing games and ignore fan noise..there are many many reports of noisy fans on these models..just search external exhaust noise in google...some say its bad some ok...i can live wih it...saves listening to wife naggin
