SLI 7900GTX

Two 7900GTX or X1900XTX/X1950XTX in SLi/Crossfire gives around the performance of a single 8800GTX.

In games you will not have AA+HDR same time or DX10, but who know what FPS a 8800GTS 320 gets with all that anyhow.
It does the job fairly well, DX10 isn't too fair to say yet need Bioshock/Crysis out really to see how DX10 is going to perform.

I just dont like the need for 2 cards, the 8000 series are also the worlds best/fastest DX9C cards but obv 2x 7900GTX's will beat a 8800 GTS 320 for speed but not features even in XP and DX9C (AA+HDR).

Sorry guys but DirectX version support is NOT a reason to buy any card.

For example, what would you choose? A Ti4800, or an FX5200?

Exactly but not getting a 8000 because you dont need DX10 is wrong (pure example nothing to do with anyone here), its best DX9C card you get.

If you already have both 7900GTX's keep them for rest of year till next refresh, if you only got 1 please dont buy another this late in day.

No but it is a nice extra to have on the side. Especially since the DX10 enabled games are starting to roll out.

2 7900GTX's aint around the performance of a single 8800GTX, 2 8800GTS's are just over the performance of a single GTX.

It depends what benchmarks you look at tbh, whatever you do, dont go using Toms Hardware benchmarks, they are a load of ****.

Have a look here:

Some the 7900GTX SLi wins, some the 8800GTX wins. But when it's all said and done, I think it's safe to say the two are very similar in performance. However this is based on the game in question having SLi support and a good, well optimised profile.

Of course, i'd never advise anyone to buy SLi 7900s new over an 8800, but with the price of them second hand falling so rapidly, current 7900GTX owners with an SLi board have a very attractive upgrade path. :)

And two 8800GTSes will be ahead of a single GTX in most benchmarks i'd say.
