Hey folks,

With how cheap the 970s are now used,Would you say its worth picking another one up for SLI?

My main concearn is it will still only have 3.5GB of Vram,And while i dont plan to upgrade my monitor yet,With upcomming games like BF1 & Escape from Tarkov i can see these games eating up a lot of Vram?

Im also courius to wether my PSU would be enough?

Rest of my specs below in siggy/ :)

I used to see 550W max on 2 x 970 in a full system with an overclocked i5 3570K. There's not a lot of obvious info on the power distribution but it implies it's a single rail PSU so amps on any single 12V PCIE cable shouldn't be an issue if hat's the case.

Hurm I'd say see how your 970 performs in the upcoming games and then decide. Keep the money you would spend on a 970 now aside, they will get cheaper going forwards or you can use the money for a second hand 1070/1080 when the 1080Ti comes out, or for an 1180/70/1080ti what end of the year/next year - depends on your finances.

I bought my 970 as a stop gap waiting for the 1080 last year, but the performance at 1080p for me is great so I cannot justify upgrading at the moment.

Check my sig for system.

2yrs without any problems on a 650w Gold PSU.

Even when running flat out during gaming, peak power usage never goes above 470w.

i have used my be quiet power zone 650w with sli for most of the time since November 2014 they pull about 450w overclocked and at full load with an i5 2500K@5ghz.

I'd save and get a single card. You'd be paying at least 130 for another 970. If you save that and sell your current card that gives you a budget of 260.

Works and go for it. 970 SLI when it works will be a great setup. It's what I upgraded from to my 1080 and in games where SLI worked well it isn't a giant leap. I have a 700w.
