It's that eternal question. SLI vs single card.

I've never done SLI or Crossfire hence why the tinkerer in me itches to try it at least once however the sensible practicality of single card remains.
But what are peoples thoughts? Current Resolution is 2560x1080.

Have drivers improved enough to make the temptation worth it?

I was looking at either a pair of these

or a single

Pair of 970s puts you at 980ti money - as things stand there are very few situations where I'd buy a pair of 970s over a single 980ti. (Or do you already have one 970?).

If you don't own a 970 already, then don't even consider 970 SLI. That being said, at your resolution, a single 970 should do. Although I would consider a 390 instead, generally better performance and scales better with increasing resolutions.

To answer the question though, this
This order: Single 980Ti > 970 SLI > 980.

I don't own any of either; I'm looking to make use of DSR and will likely be grabbing a second monitor soon of the same resolution.

Surely a single 970 is enough at that resolution?

Depends - if you want to make the best of 120/144Hz gaming and have the CPU grunt then more GPU isn't a bad thing. Some newer games can give a single 970 a good workout even at that res.

DSR with SLI can be a bit hit and miss especially with gsync where currently doesn't work.

I've got to go with everyone who's saying go 980ti since you don't already have a 970.

I do have a 970 already so I'll be going SLI when I can afford it.

I'm currently running 970's in SLI and I'm delighted with the performance but I reckon if you do indeed go with the 980ti you're making the right choice.

While SLI issues have been very rare for me, if I had to make the choice again now I'd go with the 980ti.

The 970s will give you more GPU grunt but I'd probably still go for the 980 if I were you. Dual card setups are simply not worth the hassle imo. If you're willing to up your budget though then get the 980Ti as everyone has said.
