SLI and noise

Not sure a 580 is going to be 100 quid better?

again, without knowing what games you are playing... I would be willing to bet that 570 SLI isn't going to be £70-100 better either! :D
as I say, I saw 0 improvement in the main game I was playing at the time, absolutely 0, I'm just making sure you are aware that this might be the case before you waste £70

if you are set on waiting for the 8000's and 700's to come out before making a big step up the I would just do that personally, and not waste money on 5xx series that you'll be dumping in another few months

Just seems like a really cost effective and cheap upgrade.

A used 570 is about 70 quid. A new 7950 is 3 times this and frankly I have no interest in spending that sort of money on a 2011 card, however much it might top the charts.

Just a suggestion, but 570's have recently gone for £89-£142 on a well known auction site (with £100+ being the norm). If you were to sell yours then that added to the £70 your planing to drop would have got you a B grade HIS 7950 in the big B grade GPU sale the other day, and Nath said in that thread that the are more deals coming this weekend, Maybe you could pick up a deal this weekend and then sell the 570.

LOL :D

I think you have secured the highest idle temp GPU award already :D do you not feel adding a second card might just take temps just over the edge ?

To your question noise is not actually doubled with added sources ie 1 x 20db fan is the same as 3 x 20db fans, it's still 20db total sound pressure !
But as explained adding extra cards (heat) will require faster fans all around to control the temps.

I'm very sceptical that my 570 is worth into the 3 figures. They seem to go on Members Market for about 70 quid. It seems worth a try becuase worst case scenario I can just resell the card anyway?

To be fair when I posted the thread I had no idea how high it was :D It must have been like that for at least a year, ie when I stopped bothering what the temps were. There is almost no airflow inside the case - simply because I've switched all the fans down to minimum so I can barely hear the machine.

If I knock everything up to normal fan wise it goes down considerably :D

570 SLI should work fine, you might find some minimal increases to idle as having 2+ cards in SLI seems to push the primiary card to slightly elevated clock levels more often for some reason but I've been using GTX470 SLI for ages which is hotter running than 570 SLI and at idle they completely aren't an issue noise wise. (Fully spun up with both cards is another matter).

Performance shouldn't be an issue tho the VRAM is going to be a limitation to a degree and holding the core performance back in games that use lots of VRAM - but very few games top 1200MB VRAM use unless your playing at 2560x and above with ultra settings and in most cases you can just swap from MSAA to FXAA and alleviate that with minimal if any visual difference in games that support FXAA properly.

I didn't say it was worth that much, I just said they sell for that much ;) you have to remember on the members market people are generally more clued up about what their buying.

Sounds faulty, is its fan even spinning?!!

It's right on minimum using a custom fan profile.

I'll put everything on default (case fans too) and see what it then idles at.

Edit: it idles at 62c with everything set to default.
