I've never gone into SLI before so i want to check before i do.
Can you have independent overclocks when in SLI? e.g. can i run one GTX580 at 925MHz and the other at 850MHz?
Will that cause issues?

Just run them at the same clocks. Do the two different cards clock differently?

You might find the upper card gets too hot anyway so that could well reduce the clockability of the upper card.

Who told you that ?
Since some time both card run independly on their own speeds in SLI.

From what I understand in SLi the cards will both run at the slowest GPU core clock speed

Otherwise one card would be rendering faster than another causing massive inconsistencies in frame rates as one card wouldnt be able to keep up so it is correct if you have two different core clocks the cards will runh at the slowest
