hi bit of a noob question :D ive ordered a second 1070gtx yesterday as i wanted to go sli as ive always had good single cards in the past and always served me well so never needed a 2nd card, so i thought id try sli out as i had some spare cash

my question is before i order a bridge am i right in assuming i need the long 4 slot gap one,was thinking of getting this

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/evga-2-way-pro-hb-sli-bridge-4-slot-gap-gx-309-ea.html

my current mobo is asus maximus VIII hero z170

thanks in advance :D

It does look like it yes.

There is a gap that is wide enough for 2 mode slots between the 2 16x slots and so the cable you need, is the 4-slot wide one.

Does that board do SLI though?
I have NOT doen ANY homework on this, but I was under the impression that its crossfire ,but not SLI?

Please check that out first - but as I said, I have done ZERO HOMEWORK on it, so Im probably wrong.

Just clicked on the link too! - Wow, so my naff ebay jobs for a quid are nto going to cut it are they? LOL

^yes it does do SLI.

I'd go slot 1+2 rather than 1+3. Unless you have a nice sized case as it will be pretty much covering the bottom of the mobo. Buttons etc. And gpu will be nearly touching the floor.

To get exact specs just use a rule and measure between the slots to give you an exact number you can reference to a 3 or 4 slot bridge.

I've always ran SLI because it does help a great deal and I get good optimisation on 99% of games I play. 1070 SLI should do well.

thanks for the replies :D

yeah i got to go 1+2 as its in a corsair 540 and while its awsome for cooling i cant use slot 3 due to there being headers used and hard drives sat in the bottom caddys

I use 1+2 and it's fine. Had 980 SLi in a 540 before and it was great, BUT I made sure I had a front fan aimed at the middle of the cards for a touch of extra cooling (I use a side fan for instance now in my Define S :))
