SLI cards?

Hi there
After blowing up my 6800GT Im trying to work out which new card to get. Its going to be a couple of years before I can/ want to go DX10 so thinking about a 7900gt or gtx.
What Im thinking is that if I buy a SLI card now I should be able to afford an other card in 6 to 12 months time.

So I need to know if you can mix manufactures and still get SLi to work?

If I got the OcUK GeForce 7900 GTX now could I add an other 7900 GTX form a different manufacture at a later stage? ( edit - also what are the OC cards Like? is it wirth spending more for a named brand?)

There is an alternative, you could just get 1x 7600 GT, which would be a bit faster than your 6800 GT, then get an actual upgrade to a next gen card in the 6 - 12 months you mention

I'd go with this option. Get an £88 7600 GT now, then buy one of the DirectX 10 cards next gen.

As long as they have the same core and memory type.

It wil easily keep up so long as you don't expect 1600x1200 with 4x antialiasing and 16x anisotropic filtering or anything like that.

You can use cards by different manufacturers so long as they are the same model (i.e. 7600 GT + 7600 GT.)
