I'm looking to get an i7 setup and looking at X58 motherboards. I need one that does SLi as I have 2 x GTX260's. I'm getting confused as most the boads that can do SLi say "supports Nvidia 3 way SLi" or "support Nvidia quad SLi" so does this mean they will support standard 2 gpu SLi?

Yes, just means they have sufficent PCI-E slots to be able to do tri-SLI

An example is the original p6t motherboards only had 2 PCI-E slots meaning they could only do SLI, where as now most motherboards have 3 if not 4 PCI-E slots
