I have just moved my gtx460's to my new board the asrock x58 extreme6, and for some reason it is showing the top card as gfx2 and the bottom one as gfx1?

Whats going on? I have the monitor connected to the top card gfx2 according to nvidia control pannel? The cards where put in the same way as before, I know this because I have left the plastic covers on all the other dvi/hdmi ports, so only one in use?

Is it a glitch? Is there a way to change it so that the top card registers as gfx1 and bottom as gfx2?

Or do I just live with it? and swap the monitor to the bottom card?

Is it just asrock playing with my head and making me feel stupid? :D

I suppose it is good in a way as it means the bottom card is getting all the cool air from the bottom of the case ( and wont have the other card releasing heat straight into the intake of the hotter running primary card ) and is the one that will be getting the hottest of the two cards, but still confusing

The card number is probably just automatically assigned, it should make no difference. Why would the numbering of the card within the drivers change the heat characteristics? In SLI, Alternative Frame Rendering puts equal stress on both cards, so in neutral conditions both cards would be pumping out roughly the same heat. The only time you'll see the primary card running hotter than the secondary one is if SLI isn't working!

With sli, youll very often find the topmost card running hotter than the lower one, (10c difference here at idle and in game). Due to the spacing, the top card is starved of airflow a bit, ive cured this by mounting a fan behind the cards.
