Hi

I recently bought a 780 classified (not even received it yet) and im considering sli. I used to have 470s in sli one gainward with a twin fan cooler which exhausted out the back in the lower slot and a twin frozr on the top i had no problems with this set up at all.

I had 2 7970s matrix cards with 2 or 3 slots between them and just couldn't keep the top card cool even with the side off my case so i sold one of them.

Is it worth considering one reference and one twin fan cooler in sli for good temperatures. I know a reference wouldn't be a match as far as OCability goes but what about for cooling performance?
Thanks
Scott

I'd personally go with two reference cards for SLI.
I think two Classifieds would be okay, but if you start heavily overclocking them the top card will be getting an enormous amount of heat from the bottom card.

I have one classified coming. How would a reference perform along side it? Better or worse than an acx?

My case is a 500r by the way
Thanks
Scott

Just get another Classified. Don't mix & match. I run a pair of Classifieds in SLI and heat isn't an issue at all. Max temps I've seen during game is 68 degrees.

+1 for another classy. 500r is good for gpus, get that side 200mm upgraded to a mega flow or spectre pro and just have a play with intake/exhaust to see what gives the best temps :)

Guess i should look out for another classified then :)

I was always a fan of recommending blower coolers for SLI but after running 2 Twin Frozr Lightning 680's on air, the temps were very good, so as long as you have adequate cooling in your case, any well cooled cards will work. :)

2 Windforce ghz edition 780's here running nice and cool in sli. No issues with heat. Highest temp I have seen on top card was 77 degrees and that was with max payne 3 maxed to the hilt. I use a 600t and using the 4 side fans, it really assists the cooling of the cards. Using the temp target is handy too, unless you are benching, it is unlikely you will be needing to overclock anytime soon especially if you are using 1080p

Did you mean 'wasnt' always a fan?

No Moo, I was always a fan, as pumping hot air directly out the back of the case makes more sense for cooling over having the heat dumped in the case and directly onto the top card but iirc, the temps were 5C hotter on my top card and this is more than acceptable.

Oh wait, I thought 'blower' coolers were ones that had big fans that blew on the card from above. lol

I caved and bought a reference 780 to try SLI. Its working quite well temperature wise with both cards staying under 70c :)
