SLi , crossfire + new cards

Just a quick few questions, i know sli and crossfire are the same thing but im wondering how it works.

When i put 2 8800 ultras in SLi does it make it one card so the pc utilises it all as say 1536MB (2x 768mb) or does it read it as 2 seperate cards and only the slave is used when/if the 1st card is maxed out?

Im a begginer at this so any help would be great. Also can anyone give me any info on the 9800s at all?

No, it will still only use 768mb.

going a bit off now,

so 2x 3870 X2 crossfire should be more powerful that 1 ultra

or should i just wait for the 9800s ;/

Well depends on what resolution you play at and crossfire doesn't work the same as SLi.

As for waiting for the 9800 well it really depends if you like waiting.
