SLI - Do Cards Need To Be Same Make

Just bought a new system and the supplied graphics card is a Palit GTX650.

The card in my old box is an EVGA GTX650. Will I be able to link these as SLI or do they have to be the same make. Will the increased graphics performance actually be worth it?

That's good news then.

If you can indulge me as this will be the first time I've attempted this, do I need to provide a full (6 pin) power supply to the second card or does it draw power from the mobo and bridge? If there's not a second PCI-E six pin off the PSU is it possible to buy a Molex to PCI-E converter, or a splitter for the existing PCI-E rail?

Edit:
Scratch that - Spec for Corsair VS450 shows it has 2 x PCI-E leads.

You will needa decent psu for sli. Both boards will need to have the6 pin connectors plugged in (providing that is what they both have) you can get adapters from moped to 6 pin but tbh if your psu doesn't have 2 6 pin connectors it probably isn't good enough what psu do you have?

As above - Corsair VS450. A rough and ready power calculation using one of the reckoners on the net comes in at 317watts with SLI, so looks to be under the curve. However if it's a bit close to the mark please tell me and I won't push it, as I don't want to trash the warranty on the new box.

Is a decent make but I wouldn't sli on a 450w psu personally. But I'm no expert, maybe some others will give you there opinions as well :)

The VS450 is a pretty poor psu really. It only has 360w on the 12v rail so you are going to need a new psu.

Another problem is that if this is going in the rig in your siggy the Asus Z87-K does'nt do SLI.

Also spotted neither card has an SLI output on the top anyway so process abandoned.

Thanks for the heads up re PSU. Probably explains why after putting a second HD in the case the system kept losing sight of it (now taken out).

Buy "cheap", get cheap I guess.
