Sli Gone BANG!

Hello people!

Firstly, I am a new person here but have been having a good old lurk for a while and would appreciate your thoughts...

I have an SLi rig (2x 6800GTs) but recently one of the cards went bang and I am back on the one card.

Now, I have an AMD64 3500 (Winchester core) with 1gb Ram and some other bits and pieces.

My options are as follows;

1) replace the dead 6800gt and go back to running SLi mode (Around 130 quid or so)

2) Buy a GPU of equal to or greater than power of my old SLi set up and give the 6800gt to my Mrs (Who currently has and OLD Radeon 9700)

Right... Any thoughts or pointers?

Cheers!

I think id go for option 2. When u got some extra cash buy your second sli card. A good prospect at this stage is the 7900gs if u on a budget as they are performing really well at this stage.

Thanks Wizzy,

But how would the performance of one 7900gs compare to 2x6800gts in SLi?

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

As far as I'm aware, the 7900GS is slightly faster than the 7800GT, and slightly slower than the 7900GT, so try comparing the 6800GT SLI with either of those 2 cards on THG here . 7800GT appears to be quite a bit faster in most benchmarks. :D

Getting a single 7900GS now will give you upgrade ability in the future when cash is available. And your squeeze will appreciate the upgrade you'll give her...somehow :D

Hm... And a 7800gs will be better than my current single 6800gt as well...

Yeah, In fact, I may try and sell it to her :)

yea if your set on that card i'd go for the OCuK one with the custom cooler

OcUK GeForce 7900 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-042-OK) 1

Price: £107.99 (£126.89 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Good point Meatloaf but I saw that coming when I stuck her last PC together - I got that Mobo that has both AGP and PCI-E slots :)

Clever Q!
