SLi GTX460 to GTX580 - worth while or wait?

Given that I can make a few quid back by selling the pair 460s, is there much to be gained by switching to a single 580?

Witcher 2 and Starcraft 2 don't go too well with Sli, but it could be much worse in fairness. Last years games work fantastic with SLi. I might actually be seeing the infamous micro-stuttering in newer titles. I fear for Battlefield 3!

BTW, I'm running an i7 860 @ 3.6ghz

Anyone out there actually done this switch?

TBH why change your set up now, im not too sure, but i think that your current setup is equal or slightly better than a GTX580. Its nip and tuck all the way.

My view is wait and keep your current setup.

One thing for sure though is that you wouldn't want to enable "UberSampling" in Witcher 2. It drops frame rate by 55-60%, while offering basically no better graphic quality than on Ultra alone.

So, does ubersampling actually do anything noticeable then? I haven't played the second game yet, haven't even finished the first come to think of it.

defo not worth having uber on, dropping 50%+ fps for that little increase is negligible... plus if youre playing bf3 then the action will surely take your eyes away from the (slightly) jagged edges...

Ended up getting a great deal on a second hand GTX580. Wow, it's quite a bit better than the sli 460's!!

Well after flogging the two 460s and getting a decent second hand price on the 580, the price was fairly meager given the difference in performance. Turned out to be well worth it.
