just buy a new board think the newer chipsets support both not sure tho think its X35 and onwards or you could pick up a good Xfire board for under £100

The only board to support both is the X58 (the new i7 platform), X38/48 are both crossfire mobo's, as are the cheaper P45's (although they only run at x8 on each card instead of the full x16).

I don't really know anything about crossfire on an SLi board, I didn't even think it would be possible, but I'm sure someone has done it. What card are you wanting to crossfire?

i was going to crossfire 2 4870s as i was going to buy a 2 280s but they ran out of stock just as i was going to buy them typical really aint it. and i was going to get a 4870 cheap off a mate so it would have been easy to buy another to crossfire them but looks like ill have to try and get some 260s instead or something i really like ati's aswell

Have a look at the 4870x2, pretty much 2 4870's on one card, no need for crossfire. They can be had for less than £330.

Any reason for wanting crossfire anyway? Normally one card is enough, my GTX280 can handle anything I've thrown at it, that's at 1920*1200.

im running at 1920*1200 aswell btu my m8 got a 4870 i could have cheep and also he has a 24inch monitor and he says it not tht good so he wants to upgrade reason for selling his to me

You can't use crossfire on your motherboard. You can use an X2 card (which is two cards sellotaped together) for example the 4870X2 but you cannot use two 4870s on your motherboard, you'd need a new crossfire motherboard.

Is it a 512mb or 1gb version? Either way it should still be pretty good at 1920*1200. If you feel it isn't enough though, then the X2 is the card for you, or else you're looking at a new motherboard. What price is he willing to let it go for?

Sellotaped? lol :D

why dont just borrow your mates card for a couple days to see if you are satisfied if not then just buy a 4870x2 like the rest of the guys are saying, if your not desperate wait for the 260's
