I've just got my new rig finished and although I had no problems enabling SLI, my fps drop considerable when its on. I've noticed about 30fps less in 3d mark when watching the first couple of demos, and when running ati tool i'm down about 200-300 fps.
is there something i've forgotted to do? i'd have thought enabling SLI would have sent the performance through the roof

Your lucky, I cant even get my C2d 6700 and sli 8800 Gts to get even get a mark, wont boot into the screen at all. I can run Windows fine, with some volts turned down etc... but in Graphics, I am at wall. CPU is running hot, so I will prob have to look at that tommorow :( or get a better cooler....

same motherboard as me?? i've not touched any volts its all on auto.
i wouldn't call spending 400 quid on a second gtx and getting less speed in SLI 'lucky'.

i dunno if its a driver issue - i don't really trust these drivers yet tbh. And when I play battlefield with all settings maxxed out i get a constant 100fps which is great. i'd just like 3d mark to give me a better score and not run like a bag of *****.

Looks like i am going to RMA on of these cards back, one works fine, the other I have been testing for a bit and defo is crashing XP, which is a bit of a disappointment :( oh well...

Good luck with that. I recently tested a 7900 for a customer (my work ordered it from oc) and when trying to turn on the PC the PSU would instantly cut out, detecting presumably some sort of shorting fault. A work colleague put the card in his PC and blue sparks came flying out the socket. Attempted to RMA the card and it got sent back with a £10 charge saying no fault found. (sorry OC's) :(
