Ok, I have pretty much decided to go with an Asus DDR2 motherboard and have narrowed it down to three choices:

- Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48
- Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38
- Asus Striker II Formula nForce 780i

Sadly I have heard bad things about the nForce board so looks like I will have to go with Intel.

Both Intel boards are listed as Crossfire compatible, however they don't mention anything about SLI - which is fine as I am not looking at buying more than one card at this time.

But it does make me curious to know if the 9800GX2 will function properly on a board that doesn't support SLI?

Ultimately the decision to get this card depends on whether NVIDIA follow ATI's lead (yeah thats right :p) and allow multimonotr and SLI (or Crossfire of course) - if they can't I'll be going for the fastest single GPU, whatever that might be (although I do fancy a 9800 GTX even if its slightly faster as I can only assume it will be less power hungry, cooler and therefore quieter)

the 9800 GX2 does not require an SLI board as the SLI for them is done internally, just like the 3870 X2 will run on an SLI motherboard
