Ok, I have pretty much decided to go with an Asus DDR2 motherboard and have narrowed it down to three choices:
- Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48
- Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38
- Asus Striker II Formula nForce 780i
Sadly I have heard bad things about the nForce board so looks like I will have to go with Intel.
Both Intel boards are listed as Crossfire compatible, however they don't mention anything about SLI - which is fine as I am not looking at buying more than one card at this time.
But it does make me curious to know if the 9800GX2 will function properly on a board that doesn't support SLI?
Ultimately the decision to get this card depends on whether NVIDIA follow ATI's lead (yeah thats right
) and allow multimonotr and SLI (or Crossfire of course) - if they can't I'll be going for the fastest single GPU, whatever that might be (although I do fancy a 9800 GTX even if its slightly faster as I can only assume it will be less power hungry, cooler and therefore quieter)
