SLI Not performing as expected.

It depends on what you are looking for & how much you have to spend.

1. keep cards change to a 1080/1200 res monitor play most games at max settings (but still a ? on power supply)
Cost you £100 if you sell your old monitor aswell.

2. keep what you got but not be able to play games at max settings & your monitor may not display a lower res very well.
Cost nothing. (I been at this stage for 16 months just came out of it was not fun times.)

3. Sell your 2 cards & buy a better single card 3GB or two cards.
Cost £440 - £880+ taking away what you get for your old cards.
oh + a 1000w power supply.

Again depends on how much money you want to spend on this.

Me I go for number 3 x 2

Or you could wait till new cards come out but your old cards will be worth less then aswell.

But I would deff get a single 3GB card & enjoy your new rig as it's ment to be (but you will still not be able to play some games at max even with 2x 3gb cards with good solid FPS)

Ok, do you guys think I should return the new GPU, if so what would be the best course of action. Had the card for 10-15 days now.

Mike

Memory says you get 7 days. Don't quote me on that... 7 days is a refund for no reason. Up to 30 days cash back if it fails, then manu's warranty.

I know it is not helpful but I ran 2 overclocked and unlocked 6950s with 2gb of vram at ultra on everything (minus MSAA to off) and same res 2560x1440 and it does average 60fps. Lowest I have seen it is low fifties.

Yes it sounds like something is wrong.

My 2 470s in sli run this game over 60fps with 2 aa no hbao and im getting in the 70s.

Game is funny with overclocking still. But once its sorted im sure i can push my cards to get more.

Ive benched bf3 with 470's oc'd to 750 mhz, figures and settings below.

Get yourself a better CPU HSF and clock that 2500K to something like 4.5GHz, that should show good gains. Doesn't have to be anything expensive, Gelid Tranquillo is good value.

Mackey18,

dude those temps on your cpu are way too high, from what i think you said earlier your hitting 85c @ stock clocks and 100c @ 4.2 oc:eek:

Your CPU could be throttling itself at those temps. if you are using a good cooler look at your airflow within your case. but you gotta sort those temp's to 65-75c tops really at full load.

Also, as an earlier poster said, your PSU is insufficient, i think 1x570gtx draws 330watts on load alone x2 + 105w for an I52500K, thats 765watts without drives.

Hope you get it sorted.

Hi guys. Buying a new PSU & CPU cooler for next week. Thanks for the continued support I really appreciate it.

For those asking, without MSAA but everything on max, I get 30 FPS with one card and similar with two. I was annoyed and created this thread because I couldn't play with AA on at over 25 FPS.

WRT CPU. It's max temp is 75c on stock settings but 80-100c when OCed to 4.2 GHz. So it's fine if it's not OCed, and that's why I'm buying a cooler for next week.

Regards,
Mike

Hope it works out Mackey, personally, it's utter demoralising when I get new toys and it simply doesn't work for one reason or another.

You then have the hassles of head scratching, why/me again, and what's the culprit/how to fix it?

Is something faulty/not up to the task, instead of sitting back and beaming with the new toys!

And it ends with the usual more hand in the pocket fix!

Pity you didn't take this advice and go with it:

if you plan on sli then 800w+ would be better, 750 would on the limit.

Did you miss the post, or had you already pulled the trigger with your rig?

On the task at hand, what psu and cooler are you thinking about?

I can't recommend this highly enough:
*Click me*Antec Kúhler H2O 920*Click me*

Rodney can show you!

Antec's Chill Control software is the icing on the cake, it's stunning, you can easily have an all in one water cooler that's virtually/silent(depends on the case) that ramp's the fans to the max when gaming then back down automatically!

you spend over £500 and pair of cards , and use a stock cooler on cpu :|

spend £20 on a AC7 freezer and overclock the cpu, 3.6 is just meh for the 2500k.

Aren't some of the aircoolers better than Kuhler and the corsair H80/100 etc?

Yes some of them are, I went from a lapped True Ultra to one of these(both using apache fans) and the khuler is quieter in operation(maybe to do with the fact it bolts on to the exhaust in the case) and better temps under load.

I wouldn't have changed the Ultra if I could have got hold of a bracket at the time, but I'm glad I did due to the lower noise at idle.

I sold the ultra on and got a cracking deal on a khuler at the time, it worked out about £12 extra after factoring the price the ultra bracket would have cost as the only place I could get one was abroad.

LOL @ people telling the OP to buy a smaller monitor.

why would he want to do that? When his is superior to a 1080p monitor.

I run a dell U2711 with crossfire 6970s and now Trifire 6990 and 6970 i dont run all at ultra but i do get a constant 60fps with vsync on.

a 2500k at stock speeds will in no way be bottlenecking anything.

Try a new PSU if your still having issues something is seriously wrong.

You mention displayport. Do you only have a displayport cable for your screen and not a Dual Link DVI? I also run my 27" through a displayport cable but for testing cards without you should have got a dual link dvi cable with your screen.

Have you run up GPU-Z? are both your cards being utilised? What clock speed do they report?

Vram? he has 1280MB
You have 2056MB
BF3 uses 1688MB @2560x1440 Maxed

Buy a smaller monitor play at a lower res less Vram needed.
