SLI Not performing as expected.

Vram? he has 1280MB
You have 2056MB
BF3 uses 1688MB @2560x1440 Maxed

Buy a smaller monitor play at a lower res less Vram needed.

Seems like a backwards move, thats what he was saying. Personally I could never go back, at least not without much crying! lol ;) :o

Yes he could turn the settings down as I said in post number 102
Nor would I go back to a smaller screen but if he wants to play at max settings at that res he will need to spend £800+ on new cards there is no other opition. (for best fps with all games)
If he does not want to spend £800 then buy a smaller screen, back to why in the 1st place I said get a smaller screen no lol's about it.

I'm no expert, but I think you are all skipping the basics.

Can you ask a friend to lend you an 800W PSU? Or if you buy it from a shop, ask them about their return policy. If you see the same thing, return it back that same day.

Coolers are cheap-ish, but you might want to do the same. I'd recommend keeping the cooler though, as its always a benefit.

Do the obvious (although i'm sure you did) such as being sure everything is plugged in well and stuff. Apart from that, good luck :)

I'll keep watching.

Would not running GTX570 1280mb SLI at 2560x1440
& having the vram shortage issues be bottlenecking the GPU power so in fact putting the full power of a GTX570 to waste at that high res as the cards are waiting for more vram that's not coming?

OCZs customer service is dire though, just go with a make that has a UK RMA address frankly. Enermax are one of the few, decent quality but a bit pricey.

The TX850M doesn't have a V2 as far as I'm aware, the TX850 does though. Either way both are excellent units and great value for money.

OK forgive me for being stupid but why on earth does he need to buy a new monitor, is it a issue with his currant one that doesn't let him just select a lower resolution or something.
i mean my monitor does 1920*1200 but if I'm playing a old game or one that only supports a lower res it just drops to a lower res automatically.

try playing BF3 at 1280*720 (to maintain square pixels) to see what happens if you still have problems then its not the vram causing them.

Okie Dokie guys. I installed the PSU and CPU cooler today and ran 3D mark. CPU temp went up to 70 max with an OC of 4.2. According to Afterburner, both cards are working together which can only be a good sign. 3DMark11 results here:

Kind regards,

I never said you were wrong. And personally I think it's down to the OCed CPU running a lot cooler.

That said, I'm worried that when I was installing the cooler, the heat sinc may have come up a little bit after I had applied the thermal paste. Will I have to reapply the thermal paste?

I say this because I hit 75C on my CPU today on some hardcore gaming... That's too high isn't it?

Mike

75c is fine, especially if the room temps are warm due to the house heating being on in this cold weather. I would have expected maybe lower temps for that cooler and a 4.2GHz overclock, but it depends a lot on the voltage used and the room temp.

How are you monitoring temps?
