Hey guys, forgive me if this is stupid but graphics cards are not my area. I have a 6800 512MB card, its not doing as well as I'd like in some high performance environments (namely supreme commander!)

I was thinking about getting a new card (don't know what yet) but someone suggested getting another 6800 and SLI-ing.

Opinions please.... :D

Well I bought this card about a year and a half ago for around £100. It was one of the cheapest back then, I had just bought a whole new rig and the graphics card just didnt get much attention (it should have done)

I think I could probably spend around £200 or so on a new card. Any suggestions?

I have two 6800s in SLI and i can still play the latest games on med-high settings @ 1024x1280 with decent FPS. The 6800s were truly magnificent cards back in the day and still put up a fight :)

I agree, they are rock solid, this is the first time I've run into trouble, and it still works reasonably well but id rather have it on full!

u could always buy 2 7900gs s and sli them, still good cards, i have 2 GTs and get 65 fps on full settings on everygame i play.

A pair of 7600GT will be faster than 6800 SLI and will cost approx £100 - £125

Will likely be very hard/expensive to find another 512meg 6800 as they must be a limited edition or something, not a standard part.

If it were me I'd replace it with a 8800.

Am I right in assuming you already have a SLI enabled mobo J.B.?

Yeah the mobo is SLI enabled.

Its looking like an 8800 is taking the vote at the moment!

baring in mind supreme commander is extremely cpu dependent though. maybe if you're experiencing lag its because of the sheer number of units/projeciles on the screen. i still lag with 5+ players with approx 500 units each with a e6600 @ 3.4ghz and an 8800 640mb.
