Not sure which way to go, one mate says SLI motherboards have come on leaps and bound from the last time i checked, but im not soo sure.

Are SLI cards now better and faster than a good single card??

It depends what is your budget, are you looking to upgrade? At the moment, unless you play @ 2560x1600, then a single card, like a gtx 280, will play all current games maxed out. At 2560, you will need sli/tri/quad

SLI for the most experience in gaming and second as Anant Shah94 said depend on your budget.

Anandtech recently did an article on SLI and the like, you might find it interesting.

X58 motherboards are pretty good, but expensive.

The only nForce boards that are much good are the 790i (still pricey and need DDR3 RAM) or the EVGA 750i *** - which is a bit basic feature wise but (crucially for an nForce board) is stable and supports 2x PCI-e 2.0 x16 slots in SLI mode at full x16 speed. I think the MSI P7N? isn't too bad but other than that you want to avoid nForce boards like the plague.

Like the post above you only really need SLI if your playing at atleast 1920x or above.
