Hi guys I am toying with the idea of changing my GPU but I have lost touch with the new kids on the block so I was wondering I have an EVGA 8800 ultra KO edition card ,
is it worth upgrading to a new card or maybe watching ebay for a cheap ultra to sli or is it still a meaty card compared to the new ones.

still very 'meaty' the GTX and ultras do still ahev a lot of life in them yet! tis why im hanging on to my BFG 8800GTX OC2

If the price is right...say, £100, go for it. But make sure you have a screen 22" or larger or you won't see a benefit.

Ok I have a 22" I will just have to watch ebay a few have popped up between 100-150.
I was also wondering if I need to stick with evga or can the second card be another brand.

i wouldnt pay more than £100 for an ultra
i paid £100 [well £20 and my 8800gt] for my 9800GTX
that is a newer card and is faster than all the single card ultras in the crysis benchmark leaderboard thread on here

and some of them have faster cpus than me so it shows the card up really

to be honest i dont think the cost of power and extra heat in the case would benefit you

members market on here may gve you a better deal than ebay if you go for it anyway

just become a more active member then you will get access

think im a way of from the members market and do you mean you traded your card in and was that on the members market.

well i got the 9800gtx for £100 then i sold my 8800gt to recoup costs

so i got a boost from 8800GT performance to above 8800Ultra performance for £20 cost

i admit that i have doubled the factory overclock that was on the card to get it there
but its still pretty good bang for buck

i would reccommend 4870 in your position if you looked to buy new

or

£100 you would spend on your other ultra
plus £100-£120 for your existing ultra [maybe a lot more on an auction site]

chances are will give you more than enough for a gtx280
which would be my personal choice

however the gtx280+ is due soon although info on that is a bit thin

perhaps do what i suggested and look out for a good deal - but ocuk sell the gtx280 at the £230 mark so you should get that imo

If you have an SLI motherboard and can find an ultra for a reasonable price then you can get better than 280GTX performance with SLI and even at 1280x you would see fairly decent gains.
