Hey all,

I'm building a shuttle for a friend, a http://global.shuttle.com/Product/Barebone/SN26P.asp

And I wondered about the SLI in it. If he already has a Sapphire X1950 Pro is it worth getting a second one as they are cheap and putting it in or just go for a dual slot card and sell this one off (reasonable budget! less than £200 probably).

I also wondered if the Nvidia mobo would like an ATI Sli or do they play nice these days?

Cheers,

But it will run his ATI card on its own for now?

What would you say it could handle, It doesn't seem too popular a Shuttle from my searches here. :)

Yeah should work fine, not sure what the PSU can handle, their great little units Shuttle PSUs but only rated at 350W.

Have you bought the base unit yet ?

If not there may be better value base units based on core2 or AM2.

Yes the Shuttle is on its way, it was the overall ease as there is already an X2 4200+ and 2gb PC3200 to go into it.

Whats the best graphics card going currently for under £200?

for the shuttle I'd say the 8800GTS. The 2900Pro is a contender but probably too much heat produced and power required.

I'd agree. If your psu can handle it the best under £200 card is the 2900 pro.

However, they are reported as noisy so the 8800 GTS may be the better choice. I can hardly hear mine in my system.

Ok final question :D

I must admit my favourite brand is BFG so I quite like the look of -

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Second opinion or is there very little difference :)

EDIT - though I'll be looking at card length, is this a standard across the 8800 GTS range?

Either get the standard BFG version, no need for the OC2 version.

Or fork out the cash and get the 8800GTS 640 which if your friend is going to be keeping the card for a while, is well worth getting.

Ok great, I'll have to show him that one and do some digging around. I know Shuttle PSU's are surprisingly powerful and not rated like normal ones but official blurb for BFG is -

A 425W PCI Express-compliant system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 28A or more *Minimum system power requirement based on a typical PC configured with an Intel® Core™2 Extreme X6800 processor

Gonna have to see what it can do :D

I'm running mine fine on a Tagan 430W PSU, it's quality not quantity which counts ;)

Maybe not my last question, I'm getting a headache trying to figure out what card to get :o

Shuttle have put the -

Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

On their compatibility list but I don't know its power consumption. Anyone any idea as I'm really struggling to pick a card that will work + rocks :D

Its outside the budget but it gives me an idea what the system can handle if I can find the spec (Leadtek doesnt tell me min req on the site)

Thanks,
