hey im after some advice on sli, my 8800ultra went bang so sent it of for rma. i had it in my mind i would sell the replacement so i bought myself a Gainward GeForce GTX 260 Golden Sample. the replacement card i got this morning was a brand new EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 SSC.

Would i be able to have these 2 cards run in sli?

coolio

my mb is an Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680

next question is, will my psu be up for the job?

OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready

The card in the slot closest to the CPU will normally dictate the clocks to use - but the nVidia drivers are a bit ropey on that aspect - sometimes it will pull both cards to the same clocks and other times leave them on their own clocks - so use GPUZ to check what clocks the cards are running and then use rivatuner or evga precision tool to make sure both cards are clocked to the same - too big a difference in the clocks can cause stuttery SLI performance.

600watt will be enough but only just - I ran 260GTX + Q6600 on a 600watt GameXStream no problems but I upgraded to a 700watt just to be sure.

EDIT: If you have a dual core rather than quad then I expect 600 will be fine.

500W is needed for a single GTX260 (prefer to go above that though), bit sceptical on 600W running 2xGTX260's. Figure out what connectors you have from PSU, if theres enough give it a go as you already have the cards.

thanks for the replies.

i decided to give it a test and ran 3dmark vantage on the 3 different setups i could have with the 2 cards.

Gainward GeForce GTX 260 Golden Sample - 11672

EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 SSC - 12636

Both in sli - 19347

my setup for anyone that is interested is as follows

e6600 @ 3.4
P5N32-E SLI
4 x 1gb geil
running vista 64

Looks pretty good to me, I have an E6600 at 3.33 GHz, What are you getting on 3Dmark06 (sorry! I am still on XP!)
I get 15190 with 1 285 GTX.
Overclock your gainward to match the EVGA using EVGA tuner
