Thinking of buying another 970 card... When just watching movies with the system only use one card?

I dont want my electricity bills being high constantly powering two cards... Hoping Sli only kicks in when needed

:)

Card will be running at idle clocks and TBH if you care about power you really do not go high end and SLI.

What is your rest of build, mainly CPU?

4770k

8GB Ram

4k projector

Is there no way disable Sli for when its not needed?

The GTX970 consumes 145w at peak loads so I don't think you should have any concerns. 2X GTX970s consume alittle less than what a single R9-290 would.

The clocks like mentioned run idle when not used and yes you can disable SLI through Nvidia control panel.

I think my 970s remained at 135MHz or something and about 15% TDP while playing a Bluray so I doubt you will have anything to worry about. Surely that projector eats power in comparison anyway? :p
