SLI question

Hi all.

I'm getting a new case that has a front facing HDMI socket built in, this connects via an extension lead to the back of the graphics card.

I currently have a GTX 960 but will be getting a GTX 1080 soon, I will also be getting Oculus Rift soon.

Now I have a 55" 4K TV that I use for my monitor that plugs into the HDMI socket at the rear of my PC but with that taken up by the front facing extension lead for the case (For Oculus Rift use) I need another HDMI or another way to plug my TV into the PC.

I could go the displayport adaptor route but I have read mixed reviews about loss of signal quality and loss of sound or

could I SLI the 1080 and 960 and have myself two HDMI sockets?

I have never used SLI so don't know much about it but is this feasable, would I lose anything from the 1080?

My motherboard is SLI ready.

Thanks

Kate.

You cant SLI a 960 with a 1080. You can use the HDMI from a 2nd card to get an output to another device, however it will then use that graphics card when running a game or whatever.

And yes, passive display port adapters cant handle 4k/60hz. If you get a Vive, it has a display port input, so you could use the 1080 and still use the hdmi for TV.

I had a Rift and have switched to the vive because its actually a lot better and being able to buy from here means you dont have to deal with Oculus support which is non-existent - i waited over 2 months for a replacment headset and ended up having to demand a refund.

The games on oculus home are all massively over priced, half of them dont work very well and Oculus try to tell you you cant get a refund on the dross. By comparison there are plenty of decent games on steam and if you try something and dont like it its 2 clicks to get a refund.

Thanks.

Vive is not an option as the main game I'm interested hasn't been announced for it, maybe 6-12 months are the rumours last I heard (But not definite) but Rift will be supported at launch. (Obduction)

Looks like I'm going to have to find a 4K HDMI -->DisplayPort/DVI adaptor if one exists and works.

Thanks again.
