Sli questions

From what I hear, putting 2 Nvidia gpu's in sli doesn't actually increase your graphical power that much, e.g 2 gtx's wont give you double the power of one. My theory is that there is a bottleneck somewhere, meaning adding a smaller card might give you similar gains to adding a larger one.

So my questions are:

1 - Am i totally wrong? Do you get twice, or nearly twice the power if you add a second identical card (eg. 2 x 8800 gtx)

2 - can you sli 2 different cards, e.g a 8800 gtx sli'd with a 8600gt

As you can guess I currently own a 8800gtx

Thanks for reading, hope its not too much of an idiotic question:P

You get something like 60% depending on the two cards. Think of it like a three leged race.

And, no you have to get another 8800GTX for sli, you cant mix and match (though you can do with crossfire 3 series ATI cards).

get two 8800gts g92 512mb and sli them u will see some good performance try to overclock your cpu at least 40%

Would love to get 2 gts 512's, sadly im far too poor for that:P Hence my attempt at a cheat:)

Thanks guys, shall have to get saving.

Am going to try at overclocking this weekend, got a q6600, 4 gigs or 800mhz of corsair and a Asus P5N-D nForce 750i SLi mobo.

From what I hear that should be sufficient to get sortof 3gig or so out of the proc. Only slighty confusion is the whole ram divider thing, tho i suppose i should get over to the overclocking page for that...

Thanks again!
