SLI role switching...

I have noticed (as anyone can imagine) that in every SLI configuration one card is the MASTER and the other(s) is (are) the slave(s) synched with the master.

Since I'm a natural born hacker and tester, I wonder: without moving the cards is it possible to switch the role via some utility or registry tweak?

That could be very interesting to try.

The master is the hottest (10 or more degrees) of the 2 (in my case) cards.

That's not because of position or air flow, infact if I disable SLI the 2 cards have the same temps.

I wonder, if such a thing is possible, setting the second as master, if the hottest one would become the second one.. It should.

That could be an advantage for many people since the second card is the fartest from the main CPU and easy to cool down.

What cards are you using, and why do you think that the top card being hotter has nothing to do with airflow?

To answer your question - I don't know of any way to do what you suggest.

Can't test it on my rig as they're integrated into the laptop, but does swapping the monitor cable from one to the other and rebooting not do the trick?

The other thing you could try is forcing the primary card to be used for physx - if you dedicated it to Physx I'm pretty sure that would make the 2nd card the master :p

Uhmm. with SLI disabled the cards have the same temps.
With SLI enabled the top card gets hotter even if I open the left panel and manually put a fan on it sucking the heat.

No matter where I connect my display...

But as I said.. with SLI that's pretty normal.

I have two GTX 460 cards overclocked at 825/1650/2100

By the way, my system is stable even when the top card reaches 100 degrees after a couple of hours in furmark :)

In normal gaming the top card gets about 80 degrees and the lower one about 65-70.
