SLI same series?

am I right in thinking they have to be the same series to sli :
GTX4** + GTX4**
GTX5** + GTX5**

I could SLI a GTX460 + GTX560?

im 99% confident it cant be done, but if I don't ask and im wrong, then could regret it.

They have to be identical cards. This isn't Crossfire.

oh right, so I was completely wrong. well glad I asked then I have only every used multi cards with AMD/ATI in the past.

You do have to be quite careful with your choice of cards.

You can't, for example:

• SLI a GTX 460 1GB V1 with a GTX 460 1GB V2
  
• SLI a GTX 460 768MB with a GTX 460 1GB
  
• SLI any combination of the GTX 560, GTX 560 Ti and GTX 560 Ti 448, other than with another of the same

Apparently you can SLI otherwise identical GPU's with different amounts of VRAM using Coolbits, such as a 1GB and a 2GB GTX 560 Ti, but you'll only be ables to use an amount of VRAM equal to the lowest amount.

You need cards with identical GPU's and ideally the same amount of VRAM.

that sounds like something you need to do in one purchase and buy 2 identical cards, not something as an after thought.
I have recently got my GTX460 swapped out for a GTX560 (the supplier had no GTX460s in stock ) but I got a call from them saying that they cannot replicate my fault, so are considering if they deem it acceptable to give my money back or return my GTX460. I explained that they had already sent me my GTX560 and I have it in my pc now so do I have to return it, to which she replied 'No, that is yours'. it puzzled me, but I wasn't prepared to argue.

You can't argue with that

Ask them for your money back, then you can put it towards another GTX 560 if you consider it worthwhile.

I don't get a choice, because they couldn't replicate the fault, they have to pass it on to someone higher, so awaiting decision.

yeh was kinda shocked she didn't seem to care I had already been issued a card.
