I recently installed a BFG 7950 GX2 and have been trying to make sense of the Multi-GPU Performance (which I'm assuming are the SLI) settings in control panel. It seems quite confusing tbh.
I'm using driver version 91.31.
I notice that a lot of the games start with the setting 'Custom'.
What exactly does this mean?
For example I run X3 with custom as default and I get horrible artifacting on the screen. If I change to 'Alternate Frame 2' all is well.
Then again if I run 3DMark03 with Custom I am definitely getting the SLI speeds (almost double the single GPU score). Almost as if Custom has detected (or has been pre-defined to use) the correct setting in some way.
To test this theory I tried some of the other modes on 3DM03 and the speeds were different. None of the modes available give as high a speed as custom was giving.
I then noticed there was now no way to set the 3DM03 profile back to Custom. I tried Auto-select and that just gave me a low score - higher than single GPU, but lower than the original Custom score.
So:
a) is there a nice concise guide on what we're supposed to do with these 'SLI' settings and what 'Custom' actually does?
When I went to SLI Zone it talked a lot about SLI rendering settings, but I don't see that - I only see the multi-GPU Performance setting.
b) Is there any way to set something back to Custom after you've changed it?
Thanks,
V.
