Wondering if it will work if I pair one of these

MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores Twin Frozr III 1280 MB

with my current card
Gainward 560ti "Phantom" 2gb
http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=458

Its for a gaming HTPC I want to upgrade to "current" spec (upgrading Q6600 G0/DDR2 to a powerful games machine.

Noise is important hence I chose the "Phantom" 560ti and the PC is in the living room.

Any alternative Sli solutions using my current 560ti Phantom that can be QUIET and powerful enough to play current rash of games (and new ones such as Crysis 3) at 1080p res on my plasma?

OR...
with a 2500/2700k and lots of ram in place will I even NEED to go Sli to play these games, hi settings at 1080p??

thanks.

you'll need another 560Ti 448 cores to go with your current one. The normal GTX 560Ti won't work

GTX 680? A budget woulf be helpful :D

you won't need SLI, but you may have to turn some settings down. Have a look through some benchmars of 560Ti 448 SLI in games to get a better idea :)

thanks.

If you go SLI; then THIS card is a very good, quiet choice :)

Hi thanks for the reply.

Is my current card, the Gainward "Phantom" 2gb definetaly a 448 core card?
Cant find any reference to it in reviews?

If going SLi will make a great improvement I'd go £200 for a new card.

thanks.

Think he has the 560 Ti Phantom already, so he'd be wanting to get another one of those for SLI .

Thats my current card yeah :)

Just wondering what my SLi options are with it (any advantage to using anything different - given my htpc/noise requirements - and also that I think the Gainward Phantoms are hard to get a hold of now...)

COMPLETE noob about SLi, just saw it as the best bang for buck option to upgrade my graphics along with other upgrades to my gaming htpc, Q6600>2500k and the like.

If you can afford it, a GTX 680 should give excellent performance in any game you play, and do pretty good for noise as well. They even do a Phantom version, which I'd imagine is as quiet as your current one.

If however, you're looking for the cheapest upgrade option, you're going to want another 2GB 560Ti card (you could probably find a second hand one cheaper), which could be any one of these:

Phantom 560Ti 2GB

HD 560Ti 2GB

Twin Frozr II 560Ti 2GB

Just to be clear, your current card can only "SLI" with another 560Ti card; meaning it won't work together with a 560Ti 448, 570, 580 etc.

Great post, cheers!

Didn't know there was different versions of the 560ti and I didnlt know OCUK stocked my Gainward Phantom!

I'm taking it that SLi is for extra grunt/horsepower only and not for additional vram storage?
I mean that if I got another 2GB Phantom would the major advantage be the doubled up processing power or would there be a 2GB vs 4GB advantage as well?

Another question though..
with a 2500k/16gb ram in place, is there any REAL WORLD advantage to having 2 x 560ti cards installed gaming wise....or is the CPU upgrade enough with just one 560ti?

Looking to upgrade my HTPC to "next gen" gaming status....Crysis 3 and the like
how that makes sense!

The setup will have 4gb VRAM shared between two GPUS so it will be 2gb VRAM that's useable :)

The real world application is that where, for example, your card may do 20FPS in a game, the extra GPU grunt will allow it to do 35 (just an example)

I personally would go for the EVGA 560 links above as the reference cooler is very quiet and, unless you have very good airflow in your case, it isn't the best idea to have two cards with coolers which put all the hot air into the case. The EVGA 560 with a reference cooler puts all the heat out to the back of the case.

Seems a good price, thanks for that.

Not bought B-Grade before though...should I have concerns?
Warranty?
Failure after 6 months....?
Worth paying more for peace of mind or?

I'm not paranoid aor anythin :) just wondering.

thanks again.

I recommended that EVGA card as it has 3 years warranty from when it shipped from EVGA. Which means that it should have around 2 years.
