Hi all,

A mate of mine recently decided he no longer needs to have a super dooper gfx card in his pc because he is into the Xbox 360 so much. So he lent me his gfx card which happens to be the exact same one as me.

Now im wondering if its a good idea to SLI my system with it because of the size of the card. Click the link below to see what i mean.

http://www.starks-place.co.uk/galle...00 GTX in SLI&pic=Leadtek 7800 GTX in SLI.jpg

However boldly going ahead without the slightest care to a burnt GTX card, i went and installed it in my system and enabled it in Windows. I then ran a 3D Mark 05 and got a score of 8800ish, which is actually less than when i have just one card in (around 8900) I also played some Oblivion and that didnt seem to be any better either.

So firstly, what is up with the performance? Is this normal? Do i need to have any special settings in Windows? See the other images in the above link for my settings.

My installed Nforce drivers i believe are v6.66. The GFX drivers are 81.95.

Anyway after about 30 mins of gaming the top GFX card (being the one with no air) reached 65 degrees C and the bottom was near 50. Is that bad?

Should i just unplug it as the SLI performance isnt going to get better? Or is it too hot anyway? Or is there a way for me to improve the performance if the temp is acceptable?

Thanks for any replies.

Hi there,

Well the quick no brainer answer is that the second card is not running in the 3dmark test or (most likely) in oblivion either. You'll have to go through the check list of things; such as it is plugged in? Is the power cable in? Is the bridge on? Have you set it to SLi in the BIOS? Have you switched the physical motherboard switch (only applicable to some motherboards)?

You'll know when it's working cos you'll be scoreing 11-12k in 3dmark05.

As said in the above post, check everything's set up right.

temps don't look too bad, about the same as what I had under load when I was on stock cooling :)

Thanks for your tips.

I have...

- Flipped the six banks of pins on my mobo (manual states to do so)
- Plugged it in :)
- given it power
- put the bridge in place
- Set the SLI Apetature (or whatever its spelt) in bios to AUTO, it was disabled by default
- detected and installed and enabled in windows.

The card is working other than the performnace because in my Display Nvidia SLI settings section I can flip my primary display to the second card, then if i move my monitor to the cards output it picks up the picture.

yeh i have (see the link in my first post as i have put the settings on the gallery too).

Ill see if there is an update to the drivers though.

Dam my site seems to have gone down!

Ok its working now.

I Updated from Nforce drivers 6.66 to -> nForce4 AMDIntel X16 v6.85 - Windows XP2000 (32-Bit)

And from the GFX 81.95(ish) to -> ForceWare 84.56 (x32) WHQL

Once done the 3DMark Score is now 11678 which is cool.

Thanks for all the help people.
