Hi all,

Building my rig with two 980s and wondering if I can just use the two sli power cables to keep things neat. I'd use them so that both cables are connected to both cards.

Any ideas?

Sorry everyone - meant to respond but totally forgot.

The situation is two GTX 980s, both with two 6 pins each. I wanted to know if it was OK to use two SLI cables, which have two 6+2 pin connectors each. I took the first reply to mean that it was OK, so I have one cable running from the PSU to the first socket on both cards, and a second running to the second socket on both cards.

So far it seems to work great, and has helped the cable management on the visible side no end. The situation behind the non-windowed door remains, to use a technical term, a smegging disaster.

That should work fine as you've found. In fact, I've done it myself at one point as I also found it made the cables look nicer :D
People normally have one cable (with the two connectors) on each card, rather than splitting like you have fwiw.

Good luck with the rest of the cable management! That's just no fun...

Thanks - I haven't really stressed anything yet (just a bit of Portal 2) but it seems to work fine, and I figure that the setup will at least spread the load, especially if there isn't full use of one of the cards.

As for the cable management, out of sight, out of mind...
