I just stick with a single card these days (currently a HIS Radeon 7950 IceQ Turbo and loving it! 
). The last SLI rig i had used a pair of Geforce 7900's... They were loud and the drivers were awful!! The last Crossfire rig i had used a pair of Radeon 5850's and the micro-stutter drove me up the wall!
