slight clunk when engaging gear

Is it normal on my 318i that when I engage gear (i.e. when stationary at a stop light going from neutral into 1st) I feel a slight clunk from the gearbox? Well I assume it's the gearbox, but it seems the clunk is quite a long way aft? It isn't bad - just noticeable.

Many thanks

EDIT> To quantify this feeling - it's as if someone is dropping a coke can in the boot onto the carpet from about 6 inches high, so pretty minor, but you feel it.

probably a worn clutch release bearing thats allowing you to feel the selector drop into gear - the clutch wouldn't be disengaging properly if this is the case.

IF IT IS THAT, it'll only get worse to the point it collapses or explodes into a massive black hole taking out half of east anglia..

where as in reality, your clutch will feel very light, and you won't be able to select gears.

could be the box on its way out if its been harshly treated or not serviced, get it into a garage at least for a free diagnosis. Take it to a few if you are unsure.
