removing the front wheels and the N/S came off fine - removed the 5 bolts, sorted.

O/S stuck. i've removed the bolts - hit it with a hammer, given it a good tug and nothing.

anyone got any ideas?


i can only assume previous owner didn't use copper grease when putting the wheel on or maybe a garage didn't but anyone got any ideas on how to get it off?


car is currently on axle stands incase that helps.
 
Put the other wheel back on and loosen the nuts from the stuck wheel by a turn or two. Lower the car back onto the ground and steer it a bit. That should free the wheel. Remember to use copper grease when re-fitting the wheel on the hub. :)
 
Many garages will use a lump of wood and swing it squarely at the back of the tyre (not the wheel) to release the stuck wheel.

Sandpaper and grease to the hub afterwards, stop it happening again.
 
will give these a try - thanks for quick replies, wanted to get this done before the F1 but might be cutting it close now :-p
 
right, bad news - neither of the above have worked, can turn the bolts by hand and i've moved my car around on the drive way. full lock and going back & forth.

anyone with any other ideas?

don't want to damage the alloys by hitting them.


i was thinking maybe about jacking up the N/S and putting axle stand back under then using the jack slowly lower the O/S (stuck) wheel down so its at a slight angle - might give it the pressure needed to free itself. other than that i'm stuck.
 
Tried using WD-40 or similar? Squirt it onto the hub past the studs. Leave a while, then try both the above again.
 
Good stuff. My neighbour who works for the AA is always going on about people not using copper grease on the wheel/hub interface. It's a right PITA if you need to change for the spare to find the offending wheel jammed on.
 
yeah, when i was younger i did a vehicle maintenance and fast fit course for a year and taught me all sorts from the basics of changing a wheel to changing a tyre and balancing etc etc...

... and copper grease was always used, i was quite surprised to find after getting all the wheels off in the end none had been done. must have been past owner when fitting the alloys.

all done now though =)
 
Laying on your back and kicking the wheel with the flat of your foot side to side often works, as does a good hammering with a rubber hammer. Sometimes they just won't budge though, on my old Mondeo the steels were rusted on so tight that it eventually took sledgehammer force to remove them. Even tried handbrake turns with the wheelnuts undone.....
 
Yeah I got two pieces of MDF and on the count of three my dad and I hit both sides at same time.

calipers painted - check.
