Looking to (basically) do something like rack mount on the uber cheap.
Trying to get 4 complete (if basic) systems into the smallest amount of space possible.
Considering some of setup with 4x mATX mainboard mountpoints (probably as 4 very simple shelves with screw holes for the riser screws/mounts mainboards sit on) and a "block" to house 4 drives with probably a 12CM desk fan canabalised to provide cooling mounted in the front.
Anyone have tips ("dont" I supose is one if better idea's can be given) about sourcing material and getting time on the right sort of tools to do it?
I essentially need tools/ideas for folding/cutting sheet metal (or idea's of places where I could buy "time" on suitable tools or somewhere I could send designs off to that could fabricate pieces for me to assemble).
Thinking along the lines of 4 slide in "L" pieces with the usual hole for the push in port plate, mount point for ATX PSU and the rest with as much ventilation space as possible on the "back" piece and the usual holes to screw in stand-offs to mount the motherboard on. Can be quite creative with PSU mount placement on the back as litterally only a couple of slots for graphics card needed (as it can be in a couple of places depending on the mainboard).
Ill update this tomorrow with some pics see what people think.
Would be a "with pics" project too of course
I know we have a lot of folks doing the whole distributed computing projects/folding farms etc, not what I have in mind but the setups some of you guys have may well adapt into something that would work for me
