I was looking to buy a cpu cooler but in the description the item is described as being "slightly bent" but it still comes with the original packaging and accessories.

Would there be any negatives to the item apart from this?

What would be the problems with buying this?

Edit: I've asked them if it is the contact plate or the cooling fins. I'll just have to wait and see now.

Depends what's bent. If it's just the cooling fins then no problem, if it's the contact plate then NO NO NO.

Personally I wouldn't use the bay for any computer parts. Plus what respected e-tailer needs to use the bay???

Just keep in mind many retailers often deny warranty claims when physical damage is present. It also can be an indicator that the previous user who owned the item, ignored instructions or did not know how to install the device correctly which makes you question other things about them.,

If is very cheap and you can accept or fix the slight bend, it is worth the risk. I would spend no more than 20-30% of RRP for this. It is unlikely to be the base, but if megahalems, could be the heatpipes.

They replied and this is what they said.

Me: "Is the cooling fins bent or is the contact plate bent?"

Them: "Neither it is the arms that are slightly off centre."

What are the arms?

Assume he means the heat pipes? Might be easy to bend back but on the other hand if it was easily fixed why would they be selling it? I wouldn't take the risk.

Heat pipes perhaps?

they could well be talking about the arms for the retention bracket. really think unless you are getting this for peanuts i'd be giving it a miss

out of curiosity, what cooler is it, decent new coolers here on OcUK don't have to break the bank. you could probably grab a decent cooler for 30-40 notes

The cooler was the gelid tranquillo.

I would get it here but the delivery costs make it not worthwhile. For £36 I could get a frio + free del.

That's the problem.

There's only about 3 companies that sell computer components and give free delivery to Northern Ireland and this isn't one of them.

ahhh i see, i'm in the same neck of the woods as you mate. its hard balancing act to find parts at a decent price AND factor in postage to our little ole foreign country, damn couriers and their surcharges :p

Iirc, postage cost to ni for me when i bought my prolimatech megahelims was £9.00 ono. Free delivery to ni only applys for smaller less bulky items.

i gotta say, in fairness OcUK aint too bad with their postage charges to NI. i've seen some, or rather quite a lot, of large e-tailers automatically just dumping a 15 quid charge onto your order, no matter what it is, the minute you type in the BT postcode!!
