Slightly overpriced build.. But is it worth it?

I know the build i am proposing is slightly overpowered and i could probably get a gtx 1070 build for slightly less..

I know that a few concessions would need to be made though.. such as a worse case and lower read/write speeds on the SSD's...

Is this build viable? I want it to look good, run quietly and handle 1440p games at a decent frame-rate until May when i'll be buying a top-end GPU.

Any recommendations would be kindly appreciated.

Don't really agree with the 2 SSD idea. Just get a fast primary SSD and a mech for storage. The case is a subjective choice but the one I've picked looks very similar and is slightly cheaper. Skylake loves faster RAM and the 16gb kit is cheaper than the slower kit in your spec. The PSU is made by Seasonic - a top-tier OEM. Plus you'll get a 1070 :)

Just ordered a very similar system, if it's of interest - I'd say the deal I found on the PSU might be of interest, and from the excellent reviews of the case I chose and of other cases in that price-bracket, I could never countenance spending more than £100 on one:-

I like speccing for maximum RBG fan effect with that Corsair 460X case, which means adding two more of those fans (rear and for CPU heatsink), plus a Raijintek Pallas heatsink (it will cover the ugly RAM completely).

Superfast 128GB M.2 for OS/programs (I'm only using 25GB on my boot drive but others' needs may differ).

525GB SSD for games, with same read speed as 850 EVO. The games SSD doesn't have to be the best, they'll last a long time doing only reading for the most part.

The Asus motherboard and GTX 1070 in the spec will synch their LED effects.

Go for another case, another board, another 1070, and pay less. But do get a 1070 for 1440p gaming. If you're thinking 1080Ti, those will be very expensive in the beginning, and will start coming down some months later. So depending on how much you're willing to spend, you could be stuck with the card you buy now beyond May.

I7 will be bottle necked with a 1060, minimum of 1070 with that chap.

I just built an entire system for i5 6600k, 1070, 16Gb ram, 500Ssd z170 board case etc for 1200 including Windows 10 pro

He has said in the OP that he plans to buy a top tier GPU in May. Makes perfect sense to spec the rest of the rig ready for that.

He wants to run at 1440p until May. As long as he understands the compromises he'll have to make with a 1060, then I agree.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys,

I was under the impression that the GTX 1060 would be ample for the time being, my last rig before i sold it was a i7 2600, 16gb DDR3, r9 290.

That handled 1440p on most games just fine on high, as the 1060 has almost double the clock speed, 2ghz higher memory clock amongst other things.

I am convinced people shift the goal posts every year :P, i thought the 1060 was comparable to the 980, i wouldnt have thought anyone would say that the 980 wasn't suitable for 1440p gaming.

Well, it depends what you mean by 'suitable' I suppose :)

Have a look here for a comparison between a 1060 and R9 290. Do you consider those frame rates suitable for your needs? If so, buy with confidence.

Now look at the difference between a 1060 and 1070 in the same place. The difference is quite big. Only you can decide what's right for you but do your research before spending your hard earned :)

Ok i've had a complete re-think..

Would it be worth having a bit of a shift around, maybe replacing a couple of minor components down the line and not settling on the case i want, the cpu or the GPU...
Hows this build?

avoid overclocking until i get some more cash, then come may buy a 1440p 144hz monitor with a fancy AIO..

CX600 v2 not really suitable for such a system. Only provides 480W on the 12v rail for starters, then it's rated for full output at only 30C, plus not the best quality caps etc.

These are around the same price range and are a much better option, with more warranty:

Thank you for the advice,

I'm sure ill justify this to myself somehow... Bought a £1,500 laptop only 3 months ago :P
