slightly worrying itunes occurance

Hey all, just totally formatted my computer, even changed my mainboard and graphics card, I just installed itunes and gave it no access privalges, its not connected to the net and i told it to NOT search for files.

And then I just loaded up itunes, and there is all my music, playlists and everything, its like i didnt format, i even changed the directory and harddrive of all of my music :confused:

how on earth has it done that, and it didnt even search, all music is playing properely, has apple got 'perfect' software or have they 'stolen' my info to store a list of what I have on there systems, (even if they have, wouldnt it point to my old directory) ? :eek:

When i installed iTunes, there was nothing in the library. I had to add my music folder for it to see them.

thats abit worrying though, also just switched it on again and it says my reg settings for burning cd/dvd are missing :confused:

I dont burn them anyways, but its all odd

The list of files in the library is stored in an xml file

So is all the music presumably on a second hard disk you did not format? May be you told it to scan for files without knowing???. I have never had this trouble with itunes. I have noticed that with every update it gets slower and uses more and more system resorces up. I hate itunes.

Sounds like you didn't format it properly.

I've just a normal format using the XP disc and when I installed XP again I found an error log in the windows directly saying that my computer name is the same as it was before or something.

Low Level Format 4tw.

Er yes mate definently formatted it properly,

1) Iv been a computer enthusiast/'expert' for about 15 years

2) It was a brand new harddrive out the sealed bag !! :eek:

Hmmm, im thinking either the music I saved has the info embedded in them somewhere or apple really are sneaky spying gits :eek:

Did your other drive with the music on also contain your old system partition or other backed up data?

The install could have picked up on your old installation and copied across the configuration.

If you left your iTunes folder in your My Music folder then all the iTunes song library will still be there for it to access.
