Slimline Anti Virus?

Hi,

I've always used AVG, but every time I get an update it goes from what was a nice lightweight anti virus into a norton-esque monstrosity. Not impressed!

Consider this, I've got the free version with as little running as possible, but even in task manager I've got:

AVG email scanner
AVG identity Protection
AVG online shield
AVG resident shield
AVG scanning core module
AVG Watchdog service
AVG User interface

Okay, it doesn't take up much memory, but still :mad: And to top it off I've got a Popup claiming to want to "Fix common PC problems", which has bugged out and is now glued to my screen and will need a reset to get rid of it. Yes I have now disabled popups, so that one is kind of my bad. I understand AVG is designed for morons who like to give their bank details over emails or click links which are obviously virus ridden, but for a competent click savvy user it's irritating.

So enough is enough, what is the best free anti-virus out there which just does a scheduled scan of my computer to make sure I've not got anything nasty?

Any suggestions welcome!

other one to try is avast, got this on a laptop the misses uses on my PC its just defender as im the only 1 that uses my gaming rig and I know what goes on with it lol

Have downloaded Bitdefender after a few reviews online, I like it just being one window in the taskbar, hopefully it stays that way.

Thankfully AVG is now wiped off my system and a thing of the past. Shame, it was great years ago...

I tried bitdefender recently and did not like it. Very little you can configure and the window kept poping up in the bottom right when firing up games etc Now using avast, it keeps a low profile and works great.

If you do not register your free version you will get pop-ups. ;)
