I'm a abit (well a lot) out of touch with hardware nowadays. After reading through the forums I've specced up the following system for a HTPC for the living room.

  • Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e 2.5GHz
  • OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400
  • Samsung HD502IJ SpinPoint F1 500GB

I basically want to find the slimmest box that this lot can fit in so I can shove it behind the TV unit. It's only going to be used to stream video from my NAS, ultimately I'll probably get a nice external USB Blueray player (I think Liteon do a nice looking one) and have that on display.

I'm looking to spend maybe £50 max on it and it's got to be quiet. I hate noise. If you can suggest a better HD as well that'd be ace!

TIA

Silverstone do some very nice ones, but you might be a bit hard pushed for £50

Otherwise Hiper do some very nice cases, though you have to look at buying one with the motherboard already in to get a good price on it.

Other option if you really want to go small would be to buy a mini-itx motherboard instead of m-atx. This would allow you get much smaller cases saying that I just found a HIper case for £52 inc VAT that owuld do you

The hiper can be had for less than that I just did a build with one.

It wasn't for me tho and if it was I would have the lc19 complete with fanless psu or the Omaura TF5 Home Theatre PC Enclosure but that works out expensive as you need to add a psu

Also if they were available anywhere I would use the J&W MINIX board

Thanks for the responses folks. Those SilverStone cases are nice but a tad pricey for my needs. Since I don't want\need it to be visible I'm quite happy to get a complete munter of a case as long as it's slim and the price is right.

I'll have a look at those Hyper cases.

Thanks again.
