Slipping Intro in Bioshock

So I wanted to go back and play Bioshock through before the new one comes out. However my 5850 has problems with some types of full screen video and puts the system into what appears to be a permanent loop of restarting the GFX adaptor. I get the same problems with stuff on Gametrailers if I go full screen.

Anyhoo, because the makers of Bioshock thoughtfully decided that we MUST sit through the intro movie when starting a new game, I cannot actually play my copy.

I've not found anything on google, but does anybody have any ideas how I can use the 5 seconds of control I have when the movie starts (guy sitting in airplane about to crash) to get past it to the game proper?

Sounds like a problem with your gpu setup, if it happens with videos too.

My gpu was restarting when I had latest drivers when playing Crysis in Directx 10 mode. See if you can play BS in Directx 9 mode, or try older drivers.

Upgrading to a different power supply solved it for me... does your PSU meet the gpu's requirements? What's the wattage of your PSU and amp on the +12v rails? Think it needs 500 or 550 watts, possibly up to 20 amp.

Absolutely everything else I have plays fine so I tend to think its not the hardware. There is a known issue listed on the 10.1 readme regarding h264 playback so it may be that.

Given everything else works I dont want to mess with my setup; I loaded up the 10.1 Cats last night and suddenly got the giant mouse cursor back so I'm giving those a miss.

phill0i, that would be cool, my email is in Trust if you wanna send it as a zipped attachment, I can then start a new game and hopefully I'll be able to skip it.

Cheers!

You can't skip the plane part, but you can disable the intro to the game. Try running it in DX9, and enable XP service pack 2 compatibility, here's the shortcut.
"C:\Program Files\2K Games\BioShock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9 -nointro

BTW I have had no issues with Bioshock in W7 with any of the catalysts. The only issue is random lockups in DX10, which running the game in DX9 solves for me. Give it a try and see how it goes, the graphics look pretty much the same anyway :)
