I've been looking at SLKs for my mum and we have seen a few, but came across a "high mileage" car with 60k, which is no problem. Its the 4-pot slk 200k which isn't a bad thing considering its for my mum's sedate driving, but does anyone know when/if the cam belt needs changing?

Any other owners of the new shape car have any experiences to share?

Thanks in advance :)

Never owned an SLK but from what I know about cambelts are:
- Don't trust no one. If they say it has been done, it hasn't. If they show the reciept, double check it. It could be a fake.
- If you're going to change the cambelt, change the tensioners, aux belt if it has one, and water pump whilst the mechanic is down there.
- At 60k miles, I would change it.
- All the above cost me around £200 in parts and labour to change on the Focus.
- New belts should be good for another 60k miles but this is argued about a lot.
