Slot identification

Hi all,

My dad's work (a garage) has an old gas analyser machine, on which the video output seems to have died.

Was going to try putting another graphics card into it, so asked my dad to take a photo of the innards so that I can identify what slot(s) are available.

I think the slot on the right is a 5v PCI slot, and the one to the left looks similar, but has the extra bit on the end that I don't recognise...


Then I've just gotta try to find a graphics card that'll fit! (Alternatively, a replacement motherboard, if I can identify that...)

ISA slots tend to be a lot longer, almost though they were AGP slots!

Not long enough at the back. It looks like some sort of proprietary variant of a 5V PCI slot, but as RJC says, can't find anything like it at all through Google.

Going by this Optiplex board, it seems to be a PCI slot.

We still receive those types of Dell as donations at work and they generally include the riser card + cage for adding 2 extra PCI cards.

Cheers all, especially Jasseh, it does indeed look like the slot for that riser card.

Looks like I've got to try to find a PCI graphics card then... I can't remember the last time I laid my hands on one!

Else, I'll get the other details of the motherboard and try to find a replacement.

tonnes available, I wouldnt pay more than a fiver for one unless you have specific requirements for dual head screens etc..

aye there should still be a lot around second hand, or possibly even new (iirc they were sometimes used for secondary displays in addition to agp).

I think I dumped my last PCI videocard only a few months back, it had been sat in one of my spares boxes for about 6+ years (it was a Voodoo banshee from memory).

Just a single screen, I think the software is Windows XP based, so pretty much anything should be good enough for it.

I've started a thread in the Wanted section if anyone does have an old PCI graphics card about.

How much RAM do you need in it, or do you care?

I have here a Diamond FireGL 1K Pro - 8MB PCI

No idea why I keep such junk - its (c) 1997... could be 3.3V rather than 5V, not sure.

No requirement for memory, only real requirement is that it's compatible with 5v
