slow acer laptop

my missus recently got a £400 acer laptop , with vista home , and is complaining its always slow , its got a 80 gig hard drive , and 2 gb memory what can i do to speed it up , web pages load slow to !


would installing xp insted of vista help?

web pages will load slow regardless of laptop speed as its to do with your internet provider. But anyway what stuff is running on the laptop such as anti-virus firewall etc
have you tried doing a defrag or cleaning up the computer?

avg anti virus , and thats it , no programs etc , she only uses it for internet , our other laptop with xp is about 3 years older , and faster at browsing etc tried defrag etc no difference

download and run cccleaner (something like that).

Then defrag and check ram usage. You could get an extra gig of ram, but depends if you are using most of yours as it is?

What anti-virus are you running and is it doing silly things in the background?
