Hi all

I've just built my mum and dad a new and there first computer.

AMD 64x2
Abit KN9 Nforce ultra board
Geil 1gig Ram PC 6400 800mhz
Asus ATI Radeon x1650.

When i built it up it seems fine and loaded up very quick.

But over the course of the week it's took ages to boot up and sometimes it's just stuck on the xp logo with the moving bar in themiddle and nothing happens. I'm talking 3mins nearly before desktop comes up.

I've unplugged the sky broadband router in case it was that but it's still the same. Reseated the memory. I've even brought back a image from ghost i did just in case my mum or dad messed something up as there learning how to use a computer. But it's still the same slow very slow boot ups.

what else can i do or check?.

I was thinking of using one of my old SATA drives to put a OS on and see if that was any better?

I'm really looking for some ideas and help please people?

Thanks.

start < run < msconfig < startup < untick everything > reboot

Tried that did nothing.

I swapped the hard drives over and put a older SATA drive of mine in and installed windows again and it boots up within seconds now! .

So maybe there's a problem with the hard drive?

I'm going to format it and see if it works after that again.

Yeah i did a full format on the new disc and then set it up using western digital's set up tools for a hard disc. I have loads of there drives and do all my drives this way and they've been fine.

I've checked the ip settings and everything is fine. And to prove they are fine i did the same to the new disc i put it when i set the system up again and it works fine?
